Fortunato T. de la Peña (born on 12 November 1949) is a Filipino engineer and professor, who served as Secretary of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) from 2016 to 2022, having previously served as Undersecretary from 2001 to 2014. In total, he served the DOST for 24 years spread over 40 years since his permanent position was a professor of Industrial Engineering at the University of the Philippines Diliman, Manila, where he taught for 43 years. He graduated in 1969 with a B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering and obtained an M.S. degree in Industrial Engineering and a Ph.D. in Business Administration from the University of the Philippines Diliman.De la Peña is former chairman of the United Nations Commission on Science and Technology for Development. As current president of the Philippine Association for the Advancement of Science and Technology, adviser to the DOST Science Education Institute and chairman of the board of the Philippine Foundation for Science & Technology, he continues his advocacy of bringing science closer to the Filipino people.
